TAKE HEED LEST HE FALL. A stern admonition from the Word of God that when you are standing firm, it is easy to be lifted up with pride. Therefore, be warned. You can fall. Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.
The Israelites were led by God’s Spirit into the wilderness. They were baptized in the Red Sea. They were fed with manna and the spirit of death passed them over by the blood of the lamb. They drank from the Rock of Christ. Yet, they grumbled and complained. They lusted and committed fornication and 23,000 were slain by the Spirit in one day. They were idolaters and murmurers, their actions and their mouths got them in trouble.
These things were written down for us as an example and a warning. The Israelites thought they could safely dabble in sin and immorality, yet they met with God’s judgment. “Therefore let the one who thinks he stands firm [immune to temptation, being overconfident and self-righteous], Take heed that he does not fall [into sin and condemnation].” 1 Cor 10:12
Those who believe they can live securely as a Christian without turning away from worldliness and a sinful lifestyle, take heed of God’s warning. There is a real and present danger. Do not be haughty, but fear. Humble yourself. Take heed- your salvation is more important than any affliction you will encounter on this earth. Temporary pleasures are just a distraction to destruction.
Take heed- Turn from the world into the hands of the Almighty. Turn from evil association. Put a hand over your mouth and keep your lips shut. Take heed- hide God’s Word in your heart and do not let the vain philosophies of man enter in.
Keep good doctrine. Obey the commands of the Lord. Take heed that you do not get offended by the Word and let sin creep back into your life. God is good and He always makes a way of escape in order that you would continue to stand, but he who leaves the narrow path for the broad will reap destruction. #runyourrace
