KING HEZEKIAH WAS MIRACULOUSLY healed. Hezekiah was a good King, served the Lord faithfully, but he acted foolishly in a time of testing by God, “However, regarding the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, whom they sent to him to inquire about the wonder that was done in the land, God withdrew from him, in order to test him, that He might know all that was in his heart.” II Chronicles 32:31
Hezekiah presented a pride of heart “for his heart was lifted up” instead of praise to God in the company of the Babylonian king in showing him all his personal treasures. Matthew Henry said of this instance, “the snake he is long cherishing will ere long sting the bosom that cherishes it”. 115 years later, the Babylonians invaded Jerusalem and took away captives into bondage.
There’s a few things we can take away from this: God tests the heart and allows circumstances that will expose if your faith is genuine. Will He find humility and praise to God or pride of heart? Be careful how you answer. God knows. You can fool others, even yourself; but never God. Second, what snake are you cherishing? What lies are you giving ear to? Who’s flattering you? Beware of a flatterer! It may feel good for a time, but a worse day is coming. They have ulterior motives and will ere long sting you.
