A Puddle of Water Colossians 3:16-17
Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness, as you teach and admonish and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things, and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with [His] grace in your hearts.
17 And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.
- What are these Words?
- Matthew 6:33-34 –33 But seek ([a]aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness ([b]His way of doing and being right), and then all these things [c]taken together will be given you besides.34 So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.
- John 14:16 Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.
- Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men that they may see your [a]moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and [b]recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.
- Mark 11:24-25 For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it]. And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and [a]let it drop (leave it, let it go), in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also forgive you your [own] failings and shortcomings and let them drop.
- Matthew 22:37-39 – And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect -the capacity for understanding, thinking, and reasoning, as distinct from feeling or wishing). This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.
- Have a home in your heart and mind
- Let ‘the Word Spoken by Christ have its home, prepare you heart as a:
- A place of safety, thriving, rest. (Home is a sanctuary …A place of refuge and safety), a place of rest- Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit
- Prepare your heart…John the Baptist…prepare the way for the King
- Do whatever you can to prepare your heart – Even if it takes eating locust and wearing sheep skin
- Prepare your heart and Mind – Like a guest is coming to stay for a while
- Let your actions be inviting
- Get rid of clutter
- Renew your mind- Consecrate yourself to Christ
- Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
- Let ‘the Word Spoken by Christ have its home, prepare you heart as a:
- Dwell in you in all its richness
- Richness is a product of growth
- Let these Words that have found refuge in your Heart and mind Produce Fruit
- Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not [a]fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.(Corona season)
- You become a fountain – That is full and water flows all around you. If you don’t have a pool of water – puddle of water around you, then you either not filled or there is an obstruction
- The tree that doesn’t produce is cut – Matthew 7:19 – Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
- And the byproduct of this is:
- …….and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things, and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with [His] grace in your hearts.
- Gods wisdom, His insight and intelligence
- And your heart natural signs praises to God!!- His goodness overflows and you can’t contain it but Praise Him and Worship Him for what He has done in you and those around you!
- …….and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things, and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with [His] grace in your hearts.
- And whatever you do
*17 And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.
- Why? My kids usually ask me why – Though sometimes frustrating, they are learning and “I told you so” doesn’t always serve it right because, its guide or give a future lesson
- Why Words and deeds? Why do we have to commit everything into the Lord?
- Because we can’t make the right decisions on our own no matter how much we try
- Jeremiah 17:8-11 “The heart is deceitful above all things,And [b]desperately wicked;Who can know it?, the Lord, search the heart,I test the [c]mind,Even to give every man according to his ways,According to the fruit of his doings.
- Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].
- We need God, we really do
- We do not know tomorrow but God does, he has the Drone view, GPS
- Jeremiah 29:11-13 – For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me- (Have to find Him- not aimlessly) when you search for Me with all your heart.
- God is merciful, He is the healer of our pain if only we would cry out to Him- To heal our hearts, mind, homes, cities, states, countries and the world.
- Psalms 81:13-14 “Oh, that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways! I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn My hand against their adversaries.
- Do you need God?
- He has paid a price for us
- He has redeemed us
- He had maintained us
- Psalms 86:11 Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.
- Unite my heart, engage and knit my whole heart to thyself and service, and deliver me from inconstancy (Inconstancy means changeability, not sticking to a predetermined course. Inconstancy is a word often associated with love––if someone promises to love you forever in eighth grade but ends up falling for someone else in ninth, their behavior testifies to the inconstancy of their love) and wavering, that I may not at any time, nor in the least degree, be withdrawn from thee, either to any corrupt worship, or to the love and pursuit of the lusts or vanities of this present evil world. ~Matthew Poole in reference to Psalms 86:11
Proverbs 7:1 – My son, keep My words, And treasure My commands within you.
Psalms 90:1 ~ In all those years Israel lived in constant need of refuge, shelter, and protection. More than their tents and their armies, Israel had God as their dwelling place, their refuge and their protection - This is you and I …this is why we need to stay in God’s guidance
- Time is running out
- Our days are numbered: –
- Psalms 90:12 – So teach us to number our days,That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
- (Tymme, cited in Spurgeon) Psalms ~ Psalms 90:12
“Of all arithmetical rules this is the hardest—to number our days. Men can number their herds and droves of oxen and of sheep, they can estimate the revenues of their manors and farms, they can with a little pains number and tell their coins, and yet they are persuaded that their days are infinite and innumerable and therefore do never begin to number them.”
