How To Present A Perfect Resume

How to present a Perfect Resume                                                              Romans 15:14-21

(Nkjv) 14 Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. 15 Nevertheless, brethren, I have written more boldly to you on some points, as reminding you, because of the grace given to me by God, 16 that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 Therefore I have reason to glory in Christ Jesus in the things which pertain to God. 18 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient— 19 in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. 20 And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man’s foundation, 21 but as it is written:

“To whom He was not announced, they shall see; And those who have not heard shall understand.”

  • We all want to matter, make an impact in the world, to be known as one who did much…to be remembered to have made a change in the world, be the first to go to university in our family…
    • Is that just me or you also want to matter
  • The truth is that we will be remembered, yes by those who are close to us. But it’s a matter of time before are completely forgotten by everyone apart from those who are super close to us
  • It puzzles me why we try to impress everyone out there, trying to keep up with them, if at the end they will not even remember what I did 2 minutes ago – Instagram/Facebook- Data
  • And that doesn’t only happen today but especially when we die
  • So much of our lives is hitched on what kind of job we currently have, what we wear, drive, live in and who we know and now, how many likes, friends, comments I get ( aka- approval)
  • What kind of resume we leave behind
  • Yet as Solomon said well in Ecclesiastes 1:2 (Ampc) Vapor of vapors and futility of futilities, says the Preacher. Vapor of vapors and futility of futilities! All is vanity (emptiness, falsity, and vainglory(((inordinate **excessive**pride in oneself or one’s achievements; excessive vanity))
  • Tonight, I want to speak to you about building our Christian resume
  • Speaking about resume, I went back to my emails and found one my resume from 2003
  • The idea is to represent ourselves in the best way so that we can get that job
  • Once we have “sold ourselves” to the interviewer, we leave referral numbers
  • Past employers are called and now the real truth is revealed…do you really have those skills…are you good at teamwork, can you and do you add value to this organization
  • The idea is to make the resume speaks for itself so you can be called for the second  interview
  • Paul has not met the Romans church, the gentiles he is writing to, however, their reputation (resume) reads as such:
    • I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another – Romans 15:14 Esv
    • This resume that has just been opened has great reputation that has gone forth, there is no need for referrals – you get the job (Roman Christians)
    • I am confident, concerning you my people (Brothers and Sister) of the fullness of goodness
    • You are knowledgeable about the things of God, and you are able to admonish (warn or reprimand someone firmly) each other
    • If Paul was an interviewer, he would tell the Roman church…sign here, you are hired
    • I wonder what Paul would say about the Christians of Auburn Wa
    • Even more so at Faith and Victory
    • That is, you and I, how we carry ourselves…how we take care of each other, how we love the church and protect her so that she can accomplish the work set forth
  • He states that he is confident concerning them, what would be said of us today – are we confident to continue what has been set before us? This journey? Are you?
  • How we carry ourselves today and everyday adds to the churches resume, and it has weight on whether or not we continue to work of God
  • Paul continues to write about what he has heard about them but immediately start talking about himself – ???
  • I have written to you boldly, I might be a minister to the Gentiles, for I will dare not speak of any of these things…
  • Paul is saying, I understand that you might be in Rome, where I have not been, but we are one is the body of Christ and I have a part to play.
  • I write to you with strong conviction because we are one body in Christ
  • Romans 12:4-5 (Nkjv) For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
  • And at this point, Paul has accomplished a lot, talk about a perfect resume: A hero – someone who turned his life around
  • That what we are most intrigued with, bad boy turns good, girl gone wild and back to Christ
  • And Praise God that He did that for us, but unfortunately, we miss the point
  • Paul gets its it right and I am glad it is written down:
  • Romans 15:17-19 17 In Christ Jesus, then, I have legitimate reason to glory (exult) in my work for God [in what through Christ Jesus I have accomplished concerning the things of God]. For [of course] I will not venture (presume) to speak thus of any work except what Christ has actually done through me [as an instrument in His hands] to win obedience from the Gentiles, by word and deed, [Even as my preaching has been accompanied] with the power of signs and wonders, [and all of it] by the power of the Holy Spirit. [The result is] that starting from Jerusalem and as far round as Illyricum, I have fully preached the Gospel

of Christ (the Messiah) in its entirety.

  • Paul is saying, I hear that you guys have done well and that great; however, let me tell you how you stay grounded, in the right path…how you make sure that you continue to be an instrument of Gods work
    • You only Glory in Christ and Christ alone – If it’s been accomplished through you, God takes the Glory
    • When you speak about any and all your success – God gets the Glory
    • When you win favor form others (obedience from the gentile) – God gets the Glory
    • When God gives you word to speak, preach, minister to one another _ God gets the glory
    • When prayers are answered and they are followed with signs and wonders- God gets the glory
    • Paul says- I would never speak of anything that I have accomplished without saying that Christ has done it through me
  • Tonight, I want you to take a moment and do a heart check of all those highlighted things on your life resume
  • Take a true inventory of yourself and ask, have I given God the glory in all things
  • 1 Corinthians 10:31(Nkjv) – Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
  • There is nothing wrong with boasting of what God has done through us, that’s how others know that Our Redeemer lives! – The issue is robbing God of His Glory
  • 2 Corinthians 10:15-17 (Esv) 15 We do not boast beyond limit in the labors of others. But our hope is that as your faith increases, our area of influence among you may be greatly enlarged, 16 so that we may preach the gospel in lands beyond you, without boasting of work already done in another’s area of influence. 17 “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.
  • Yes, do it, make the Name of the Lord known! – Go tell it on the mountains …
  • Paul is not an exception
  • All throughout the Bible, God continues to transform people
  • The Bible tells me that He is the same yesterday, today and forever…I am confident that He is still transforming people
    • John 4 – The woman at the well
    • The disciples
      • Matthew – Tax collector
      • Peter – a fisher man
      • Mary – who anointed the feet of Jesus
      • And today- Calvin and Hannah ( wedding)
  • You who has a bad resume from your past today if you hear His voice and don’t harden your heart – He will hear you and wipe clean your past and give you a beautiful present
  • I can hear the enemy voices trying to get to Paul’s head
    • You used to Kill Christians – Paul response, that is true but “I will not dare to speak any of those things, which Christ has not accomplished through me, in words and deed
    • You messed up your marriage, your kids are the way they are because of you…., yes that true but I met Christ and now “I will not dare to speak any of those things, which Christ has not accomplished through me, in words and deed
    • When the voices come that are telling you that you have to do so much bad and  that you have “ pay” for the lives you messed up…your response: See when I come to Christ, He takes my burden and  He gives me His York, I get to move where he moves, “I dare not speak any of those things, which Christ has not accomplished through me in words and deed”
  • And for you who has faithfully walked with God, know that it’s been His protection that has kept you this far
  • Romans 1:16 – For I am not ashamed of the gospel [a]of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
  • 2 Corinthians 12:9 – And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me
  • It doesn’t matter what you have been doing up to this point, His grace is sufficient,
  • You don’t have to have it all together – His grace is sufficient in your weakness
  • We all get to build our own resume to add to our church’s resume (Body resume)
  • Romans 15:20-21 – And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man’s foundation, 21 but as it is written: “To whom He was not announced, they shall see; And those who have not heard shall understand.”
  • Paul is saying, don’t be that person when asked if they are a Christian, they say” yes my grandpa was a pastor, or I am a member of FVC even though we have not seen you in 3 years
  • Don’t build on someone reputation, the curtain was cut giving us access to Christ
  • You too can and will declare His goodness in you!
  • If we have knowledge and revelation of Christ and our lives are characterized by goodness, we are competent to teach others
  • Romans 15:14 –  I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers,[a] that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another.
  • Let this said of you, of us, of our families, our church ….in everything
