BE CAREFUL LITTLE EARS what you hear. What are you giving your attention to? What preaching are you filling your mind and soul with? What gospel are you giving heed to? Yesterday as I was running an errand, I was listening to the local Christian radio station. Apparently there’s a new “worship” song about Psalm 29.
If you know me, you know I love and study extensively the Psalms and Revelation. They interviewed the writer about the song, he references the Psalm and says, “God’s love thunders”. Immediately I thought, “that’s not what the Word says.” Psalm 29 is a beautiful Psalm about the glory and majesty of the Lord. His voice thunders- it’s awesome and powerful. It produces in us a respect, honor and holy reverence for an all powerful, all mighty God. His voice thunders displaying His majesty and greatness and addresses our own weakness and importance of being prepared to stand before such a God. Not one mention about “love”. I get it.
There’s a sense of “poetic license” in song writing, but all the songs and messages I keep hearing coming out of the church are “just love”; except it’s not God’s love. It’s a fleshly, sinful, “I’ll do what I want” kind of love. And I love Him because He first loved me, but He is an awesome and mighty, all powerful and holy, holy, holy God. He deserves all honor, all glory, all respect.
His love does not annul His holiness. His grace does not annul His Word. Stand in awe before Him and commune with your own heart, for you will one day stand before this holy God. This is what Psalm 29 is about. “Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. The voice of the LORD is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The LORD is over many waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; The voice of the LORD is full of majesty.” Psalms 29:2-4 #runyourrace
