Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses. And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfieth the longing soul and fill the hungry soul with goodness. Psalm 107:5-9
Satisfieth, what does this mean? In the Hebrew it is pronounced as sabea. It is a verb meaning to fill to satisfaction, to be full, or to have enough. Often when I heard the word satisfied, I think about achieving a goal, being full in my belly from food, getting married or having a child, or maybe it’s a trip that I have planned and was finally able to go on. All these things which are good things and do provide satisfaction, provide only a temporary satisfaction.
Do you not realize that within hours or days of being satisfied, that the feeling you desired quickly disappears? During this past year, God has removed many of the temporary things which satisfy. And honestly, I am quite grateful He has done so. No temporary thing in life no trip, no relationship, no achievement, no vaccine, nothing but God can and will provide the eternal satisfaction that our soul longs for. And as I reflect on 2020 and look forward to 2021, I am reflecting on this very thing, did God satisfy me? Was God truly enough for me? Per the Psalmist, did God provide all that I need in all my distresses?
I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety.
For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one[d] to rot in the grave. You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. Psalm 16:8-11
This reminds me of the worship song, The Heart of Worship. The lyrics of the first verse have played over and over in my head. They are as follows
When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that’s of worth
That will bless Your heart
All the temporary things have been stripped away and God has and will continue to sustain me. He has been my strength and fullness before 2020, during 2020 and the coming years. The things of the world will continue to change, in fact just around the corner is another battle for each of us. Remind yourself that no matter what comes, God satisfieth you!!! He provides eternal satisfaction, He will fill you completely, He is enough!
Hungry I run to you for I know You satisfy!!! I am empty but I know Your love does not run drySo I wait for You
So I wait for You
