IS YOUR MIND SAVED? When Timothy was facing hard times, Paul told him, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:7 Other translations read, “self-control”, but this is an inaccurate rendering of the Greek word used here. It is a compound word formed from two words, the first word “sodzo” translated as “salvation” and means “deliverance, protection, soundness” and the second is the root word for “mind”.
The idea presented here is that God has given the new man a mind that is saved and protected, a sound mind. This is the quite the opposite of a mind given to fear, panic or unfounded and unreasonable thinking. God has given us this “sound mind”, it’s a gift; but like any gift you have to take it out of the box, plug it in and use it. Stop complaining that your hair is wet when your blow dryer is sitting on a shelf. You control what you watch and listen to. You control what you read. You control your thought life.
The enemy can only steal what you give away. I’m warning you right now, if you allow fear to control you; you will be deceived. Fear clouds your mind and thinking. If you want to “run and hide” in self-preservation, you are under a spirit of fear. The righteous are bold as a lion! Power up your thoughts and give life to your words. Speak life! Speak hope! God has given you a sound mind. The LORD is my light and salvation, whom shall I fear?#runyourrace
