When You said, “Seek My face,”
My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”
Psalm 27:8
This is a beautiful and powerful portion of Scripture that, if heard and accepted as our own, will lead us into the throne room of God day after day. The disposition of the heart here was to say, “Whatever it is you command of me, that I will do”. The command of God went forth, and the heart immediately and thankfully complied with His command. This is the truest meaning of “Wait upon the Lord”. To stand at the ready as a servant, eager for the command to go forth so that they might serve Him in whatever capacity He asks.
I wonder, how many of us can say the same of our own heart’s readiness to obey? Like the parable of the wedding feast, this command to seek Him goes out as a personal invitation to all are found. Like the parable, many were unwilling to come, others made light of the invitation and went their own way and tended to their own business instead; still others treated the call with hostility (Matt. 22). Each day the Lord calls out to us, and each day we make the decision to heed His voice or to tend to our own ways instead. “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon” (Isa. 55:7).
This is the promise of the Lord to all who would accept it, return to Him! Turn from your own ways and seek His face, ask forgiveness and you will be restored. Now is the time, it cannot wait. For some, His call goes unheard, drowned out by many other voices. For others, their heart answers “Your face I refuse to seek”. Yet let it be known, His call is going forth. Will you answer?
