MEN SHALL BE LOVERS OF themselves. It is an unequivocal sign of the end of days, even among Christians. This morning I read “My Utmost for His Highest” and today’s devotion was about obedience. Chambers said, “The counterfeit of obedience is a state of mind in which you create your own opportunities to sacrifice yourself, and your zeal and enthusiasm are mistaken for discernment.” You need to read and reread that again.

I cannot tell you how many times someone has told me, “God told me to do this!” Yet forgetting they also said, “God told me to do that!” at a differing time because it matched up with their state of mind. The Spirit of God never contradicts the Word of God. God will not tell you to stop your work until the mission is complete- not when you are done or your ego has been bruised and you are offended.

Your “discernment” is fleshly and puny compared to God’s wisdom. Your sacrifice is nothing when it contradicts obedience. You tell God, “Look at all I’ve done for You!” When what He really asked, you have not done. If you were honest with yourself, you know you did what you wanted to do. Pride keeps you from submitting to any authority, or maybe that narrow path was too long and too hard?

Do you fear? Why do you refuse to obey? Saul believed he was obeying God, but he was operating under deception. “Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” James‬ ‭1:21-22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬#runyourrace
