SELF-RIGHTEOUS MUCH? Self-righteous defined: characterized by a certainty, especially an unfounded one, that one is totally correct or morally superior. Synonyms for the self-righteous man are: smug, sanctimonious, self satisfied.

I’m very leery of people who accuse of others of wrong doing and how they have been wronged by those people. Pay attention. The self-righteous will reveal themselves. They will exalt their achievements and ridicule and bad mouth others. They are very good at pointing fingers and will go around accusing others, even to their face. They cannot see their own actions, but consider themselves good at judging others motives and intents. They refuse to investigate the whole story because they are right and you are wrong; therefore they raise a smear campaign to mar your name. They are always the hero or the victim, but never the villain.

Jesus rebukes these kind of people, “But He said to them, You are the ones who declare yourselves just and upright before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted and highly thought of among men is detestable and abhorrent in the sight of God.” Luke‬ ‭16:15‬ ‭Let me give you a little clue: if they attack others, they will eventually turn and attack you. If their story is always how they’ve been wronged- beware, you’re dealing with a smug and deceived person. If their “ministry” is to tear down another’s ministry, run. Stand far away from the wicked; for the snare they set for others, they will fall into themselves and you along with them. Stand in awe and be of a contrite spirit; for God gives grace to the humble; but He opposes the prideful, sanctimonious man. #runyourrace
