Settled and Absolute knowledge I John 5:14-21
- We have come to the end of 1st John – we have had some great messages
- Don’t be a stumbling Block, Lust of the Flesh, the eyes and the pride of life, The last Hour, Your action display your heart condition, Don’t miss this, Do not be surprised, This is how we know, What’s love got to with it, Behind bars, I trust in Jesus
- He spoke on:
- False Spiritual leaders – they taught their own ideas to advance themselves as leaders
- Remember they didn’t have the New Testament to check theology against it
- John was writing these letters to set the record straight, particularly concerning the identity of Jesus Christ
- John tells them that they could tell if they were true Christians by looking at their actions
- If they loved each other there was evidence of God in their lives, but if they fought among themselves then, through their actions they were saying “ we do not know God”
- He didn’t ask them to be perfect, the call was to recognize their sinful nature and ask for forgiveness. God would be faithful to forgive them
- Apostle John knew Christ first hand and he was saying, you can have close relationship with others and with Christ – and these pleases God
- All that to say – go back and listen to all the amazing teaching that has come along
Read the Text: 1 John 5:13-21 ( NLT)
- What is Apostle John saying in his conclusion
- That whenever we ask God anything that pleases Him – he hears us
- And since we know that He hears us – He will answer us – if it pleases Him
- If we see our fellow Christians sin, we should pray for them, and God will give them life/save them
- He is speaking on the different prayers offered for different sins – one that leads to death and other that will not lead to death
- This is a debated verse and this is my conclusion based on some wise council from trustworthy source
- The sin that causes death can be likened to those who continue to sin willfully and have no heart of repentance
- There is a big difference between falling into sin – we have all sinned and come short of God glory
- Verses enjoying your sin (making a covenant with sin) and asking for prayers as a cover up
- He continues to say that Gods children do not make a practice of sin – its not something that we do or continue to do
- He reminds us that they are not of this world – the world is controlled by the evil ones however they are Children of God
- And as children of God we have been given understanding – that we live in fellowship with Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit
- And in conclusion – Know that God is the only true God and He is eternal life
That was just the intro- lets really get into the text we are going to camp in/at:
- I John 5:14-15 (Ampc) And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us. And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him.
- Think about the confidence that Apostle John has when he states this – That word settled means Established/Secured permanently and he adds Absolute – meaning – complete/Totally
- That when we ask/pray with His will in us, then we have a Complete secured guarantee that He will give us what we ask!
- Do you have the this confidence when you speak about your life, when you pray – what are your expectations when you approach God?
- Can you say with confidence- Lord, this thing that I am asking – that is in your will – I believe that it will happen?
- I hear some of you say “ Pastor Mugi, please show me how ”
- Well, it’s not hard to find out what Gods will is – Read your Bible and pray according to His Word!
- This is the only way you can have a settled and Absolute knowledge of who Go dis and what he says
- My favorite part of this song “ The Christ the King, The Living Breathing God…how great the revelations To See you as you are”
- Did you know that (Proverbs 19:21 NLT) You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail
- I think that too often we make requests with our own knowledge – we lean on our own understanding, and we don’t lean in on the Holy Spirit
- Imagine if we could all pray with Boldness and settled and absolute knowledge that He will Hear us when we pray!
- In Luke 8 – Jesus has just healed a man who was demon possessed for a long time
- Jesus casts out demons and send the demons to a heard of pigs
- People are afraid and they ask Jesus to leave their town – we sometime do this – We want Jesus but not if HE is going to interfere with out possessions
- Jesus takes the boat and heads to the other side of the lake
- Luke 8:40-42 (Nlt) – On the other side of the lake the crowds welcomed Jesus, because they had been waiting for him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a leader of the local synagogue, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come home with him. His only daughter,[a] who was about twelve years old, was dying. As Jesus went with him, he was surrounded by the crowds.
- Jesus doesn’t immediately go, a woman who had an issue of blood comes over and with great risk and faith touches Jesus’s garment and she is healed (Talk about Settled and absolute knowledge – That He is able to heal her)
- Luke 8:49-56 (Nlt) – 49 While he was still speaking to her, a messenger arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. He told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”50 But when Jesus heard what had happened, he said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed.”51 When they arrived at the house, Jesus wouldn’t let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, James, and the little girl’s father and mother. 52 The house was filled with people weeping and wailing, but he said, “Stop the weeping! She isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.”53 But the crowd laughed at him because they all knew she had died. 54 Then Jesus took her by the hand and said in a loud voice, “My child, get up!” 55 And at that moment her life[a] returned, and she immediately stood up! Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were overwhelmed, but Jesus insisted that they not tell anyone what had happened
- What can we learn from this miracle?
- Jesus says – Jesus delivers`
- I John 5:50 – Don’t be afraid – Just have faith, and she will be well
- Jesus hears your prayers, and He has the ability to give you what you ask for
- “that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us”
- The simple truth is that if you have a relationship with Jesus, you can make any request and He will hear you
- God will not listen to the prayers of those who don’t obey Him – Proverbs 28:9
- (Student loans – Story)
- Matthew 7:7(Nkjv) “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
- James 4:3 (Nkjv)You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures
- Don’t listen to the noise
- Luke 8:49 (NLT) – While he was still speaking to her, a messenger arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. He told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”
- There are so many voices from the messengers – Don’t let others keep you away from clinging on to Gods promises
- Stop praying for that thing- its been 20 years – If God wanted …so long – move on, where is your God?
- Story about THE GROUSE GRIND – about 2 Miles/2800 stairs/2800 elevation gain
- He has promised is faithful – Hebrews 10:23( Nkjv) – Wont He do it?
- (Luke 8:53 NLT) The Bible says that the crowd laughed at Him – because they knew that the girl was dead
- Be with those that are strongly rooted
- Who is in your group? Are they strong? Armor bearer? Or are you just going with the crowd – the crowd was just weeping and wailing – and laughing as well
- Jesus knew the hearts of all the people that were there – Hence He took only Peter, James and John- and those who were the confident (assurance) that He would raise their daughter to life
- There are friends that you need to leave at the door
- Ask God to reveal the heart of those who are close to you – (Prayer meeting sermon– Judas)
- Know your circle – know in you know, know
- Don’t laugh
- Sometimes we don’t know that we are laughing, we look at things in our own eyes and our response is, “that cannot happen”
- Our laughter becomes a sign of unbelieve
- Do you or don’t you believe?
- You might not be laughing out right when God says He will do something – but do you have unbelieve?
- Expect a Miracle
- Luke 8:54-55( Nkjv) – But He [a]put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, “Little girl, arise.” 55 Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And He commanded that she be given something to eat.
- Then Jesus said my “child get up” feed the child –That there would be growth that would happen moving forward
- 5 years ago My wife was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer disease
- Why do we share it now – because like the parents of this girl, the doctors have said,
- There is no cure, – Translated to “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”
- We will just monitor the symptoms, treat the symptom and keep the numbers low – Translated to “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”
- When it get worse, we will give you more and different medicine – Translated to “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”
- My girls and I pray every day expecting a miracle – Translated to: vs 51: When they arrived at the house – If you notice, Jairus and his wife, still took Jesus to see the girl
- They didn’t care what the messenger has said, they didn’t care about the death report, they didn’t care about the people crying and wailing, they didn’t care even when the people laughed
- THEY JUST EXPECTED A MIRACLE
- Why do I share this today- after 5 years- Because when my wife is healed, and we are due for a miracle in Jesus name- when (Not if) it happens, it will be loud and clear that it’s the Lord who said “My child, get up” And get Eva some food! – Forget all the food restriction
I don’t know what you need to believe for tonight- But I pray that you do ask the Holy Spirit to revive that settled and absolute knowledge that:
Ephesians 3:20 (Amp) Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us,
