I HAD A STRAWBERRY plant one time, but I never purposefully planted it. Strawberries are one of my favorite summer fruit and a staple in our home. I remember this one spring, I was sitting on my back porch, eating my strawberries and throwing the stems into my planter. This planter used to have flowers, but this year I did not buy any new ones, and so it was just full of some old soil. Several months later, I had some strawberry plants growing in that pot. The planter was outside on my deck, and since I live in a very rainy area, it received plenty of water. I had to sit back and remember and ask myself, “why do I have a strawberry plant growing in my pot?”
My mind raced back to that day when I was throwing my stems away in the pot. It was by accident that I started growing a strawberry plant. I didn’t even have to water it, the rain came on it’s own. Now, the good news is that I like strawberries. So, this turned out to be a good thing. But I reckon that there is a lot of people reaping a harvest of things they planted “accidentally” and the rain cane down and watered those seeds as it does. Then, these same people claim that the enemy is stealing from them and destroying their life or something along similar lines. They will pray and pray, but not get what they are praying for. When in fact, they planted something they did not think would take root.
Scripture tells us that seed time and harvest will not cease: “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”” Genesis 8:22 ESVThis means that whatever seed you sow, you WILL reap. We can be sure of this that every seed, good or bad, WILL produce a harvest. “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. (Galatians 6:7)
The most tangible place you can see this is in your finances. (I do NOT believe you give to get. I do believe that God is generous when we give). When you are not generous, when you do not tithe, when you withhold honor to whom honor is due; you will not reap generously, but sparsely. You will find yourself in lack. Do not be deceived. Seeds can also be words and actions.
When you do not honor others, you will not be honored. When you greatly honor others, you will be greatly honored. Seedtime and harvest will not cease. Do not be deceived. When you gossip, you will be gossiped about. When you slander, you will be slandered. When you cause division, you will reap division. Sow pride and reap a harvest of destruction. Do not be deceived. Do not think the enemy is doing these things- you are reaping a harvest from those seeds you planted. It does not matter whether or not you realize what seeds you planted. Look at your life. Look at your circumstances.
Examine the fruit that’s popping up. Sow to the Spirit and reap of the Spirit. Sow seeds of mercy and you will reap mercy. Sow honor and you will receive honor. Sow forgiveness, grace and truth and you will reap forgiveness, grace and truth. I have never seen anyone be able to out give God. He rewards abundantly.
I could call out a lot of disobedient people who are reaping a harvest of disobedience. But they cannot see it because they are lukewarm and still blind. Their apathy and laziness is producing a field of thorns. Scripture warns us, “Do not be deceived”. Translation: stop lying to yourself and believing your own lies. Therefore sow to the Spirit. Sow spiritual seeds and reap a bountiful harvest. Sow kindness and reap friendship. Sow joy and reap bliss. Sow peace and reap unity. Sow righteousness and reap blessings. Sow the truth a reap a harvest of souls. #runyourrace
