Surely the Lord GOD does nothing,
Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
Amos 3:7
The Lord speaks through His prophets so that when things come to pass, He is glorified and people are without excuse. If the Lord acts without revealing His plans beforehand, people give glory and credit to idols and images rather than God. Noah was warned of the flood, Moses warned of the plagues, Jonah warned of the destruction of Nineveh, and Joseph warned of the 7 years of famine. In two of these instances, the people did not listen and were destroyed, and in the other two, the people repented or believed and were saved.
The nature of God is to tell beforehand what He will do, because He desires change, obedience, and repentance from all people. He does not act without telling His servants the prophets first, and through them, you. Those who hear beforehand have reason to believe when things come to pass (John 14:29). Those who hear are without excuse if they refuse to listen and suffer calamity “then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head” (Eze. 33:4).
The righteous are wise to take all things before the Lord in prayer, testing the spirits to see if they are of God. I have received genuine words of the Lord from others, and I have received false ones. God is not the author of confusion, He will make Himself known to those that seek Him diligently. There are many false prophets in the world, but there cannot be an imitation unless there is a true one to imitate (1 John 4:1). Test the spirits, because truth can withstand scrutiny and examination.
Even from the beginning I have declared it to you;
Before it came to pass I proclaimed it to you;
Lest you should say, ‘My idol has done them,
And my carved image and my molded image
Have commanded them.’
Isaiah 48:5
