HAVE YOU EVER HAD SOMEONE confront you and you had no idea what they wanted to talk about and then, BOOM! You’re blind-sided by what they had to say and then they expect an answer from you immediately? Anyone know what I’m talking about? It happens to me quite often.
Another pastor taught me a good tip. Next time this happens to you say, “It sounds like you’ve had a lot of time to think about what you wanted to talk to me about, so I would like a couple days to think about it before I answer you.” They probably won’t like it, but wisdom thinks long and hard before she gives words to her thoughts. “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” James 1:19-20 A fool vents all his mind, but the wise holds his feelings back.
Do not allow someone to manipulate you and demand an immediate response because their fragile ego requires it. Typically, a rash response is going to be according to your feelings, you’ll feel trapped and come out blazing. It’s good and right to remain silent. You don’t always have to give an answer, nor do you need to defend your actions. Take a few days to pray and give it over to the Lord to respond wisely. #runyourrace
