STAND FIRM

STAY WITH ME as I take you down this trail. Athaliah, the only non-Davidic ruler in Judah’s history, was queen during a six year reign of terror. She was the daughter of the wicked king Ahab and Jezebel (you perhaps remember her) and married Jehoram, the son of Judah’s king Jehoshaphat (Jehoshaphat made peace with Israel when Judah and Israel were divided.) stay with me a little bit longer. King Ahaziah, the only son of Athaliah, was killed during Jehu’s purge of wicked Ahab’s house. Athaliah mounted Judah’s throne and attempted to purge it of all David’s descendants, including her own grandsons. The wife of the high priest hid the infant son and preserved the Davidic lineage. Why is this important? This act was God ordained because God keeps covenant.

““Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭7‬:‭9‬ ‭

Remember God’s words to David, “And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.” II Samuel‬ ‭7:16‬ ‭

From David’s line would come Messiah. “Your throne shall be established forever”. God himself preserved David’s lineage because He keeps covenant. What does this mean to you? God watches over His Word to perform it. No enemy and certainly no devil can kill what God has spoken. Though one may try and it may look bleak, no man or wicked queen can kill the vision God gave you.

God’s hands protect His Word.

You don’t have to fear what man does. When all seems lost and hopeless, fear not! God always makes a way. If He said it, He will accomplish it. If He promised it, He will make a way even in the desert places. Just as Jesus stood by Paul telling him, “You must go to Rome”; Jesus made the way for Paul to go to Rome. In the midst of a storm and a shipwreck, the apostle Paul says one of my favorite verses of Scripture,

“Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me.” Acts‬ ‭27‬:‭25‬ ‭

It’s an affirmation of the faithfulness of God to perform all His Word. “I believe it will be just as He told me” means that you stand firm without doubting or worrying. You are not double-minded and tossed about by the wind, but are anchored on the Rock of God’s Word. Your belief is not according to what you see in the natural, but in what He has shown you. Stand firm in awe and watch Him move. Be faithful and obedient in the waiting. He (not you) will bring all things to pass, just as He said He would.
