STRONGHOLDS

STRONGHOLDS

DEMONIC STRONGHOLDS. Ok. So here’s the deal. We have a real enemy and we are in a real spiritual battle. I know that the enemy of our souls possesses and oppresses people. Now, I do not believe a demon can possess a born again Christian because the Holy Spirit lives inside him. I have seen the demon possessed and it is an ugly thing. But a demon can oppress a Christian by causing all sorts of problems including physical infirmities, anxiety, depression, panic, fear, etc.

I had a couple come to me for prayer and the husband tells me, “she’s been to every doctor and they cannot figure out what is wrong with her.” As I began praying, the Holy Spirit revealed to me that is was a demonic stronghold on her. I prayed for her and cast it off, but told them it will continually return because they were living in disobedience. This is a huge problem in the church. People want to be delivered, but do not want to be obedient. So they follow around “miracle workers” but never get the victory. Here is a Scriptural principle: return to sin and disobedience and a worse thing will come upon you. You have left a crack for the enemy.

“She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”John‬ ‭8‬:‭11‬

And again Jesus says, “Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”” John‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬ ‭

I read something the other day by a person who posted that we sin because we have an “orphan heart”. This is unscriptural teaching. We sin because we are born into sin and the flesh is sinful. Telling people it’s because they have an “orphan heart” makes them the victims.

We were not the victims, we are the criminals. We were an offense to God. In fact, you are still an offense to God unless you repent of your sins, turn away from the world and run towards the cross and confess Jesus as Lord and Savior and begin a new life of obedience. Only then will you have the power to be a son or daughter of the Most High. You are given the power to overcome the flesh and the devil. However, here is why so many live in demonic oppression: they refuse to discipline their flesh and a worse thing comes upon them. I can pray for you all day, everyday and cast off every demonic stronghold, but until you start being obedient and disciplining the flesh, that thing will continue to return.

People do not get radical enough with sin and the flesh. The apostle Paul sure did, “Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” (I Cor 9‬:‭26‬-‭27‬) Disqualified means he would fail to get the prize he was running for- eternal life. If Paul, the man who did perhaps the most for Christ, beat his body into subjection, shouldn’t we model his behavior? Did not Jesus say, “if your eye offends you, pluck it out”? He was not speaking of literally plucking out your eye, but rather to get radical against overcoming the flesh.

Do whatever needs to be done to not sin. What does this mean? Separate yourself from friends and maybe even family members who cause you to stumble. Stop watching certain programs. Stay off the computer, phone, or any electronic device that creates a lustful desire. Stay away from certain places. If alcohol is your poison, keep it out of your home. Fill your thoughts and heart with God’s Word instead of the world and its ways. Be steadfast in prayer and renew your mind to His Word.

Find yourself in the house of God where the Word is being preached and the Spirit is alive. Go and go often. Stop following online preachers and miracle workers! You have no root. Get planted and remain fixed under a good shepherd and the family of God that will sharpen you, pray with you, protect you, provide and walk beside you. Individual Christianity is godless and the devil will run all over you because you are disobedient, weak and wounded.

The apostle Peter tells us that if we do “these things”, we will never stumble. We are told if we obey the commands and principles of God, those demonic strongholds have no hold on us. There’s a part you have to play in this Christian walk. It’s not all on you, but it’s not all on Him. He has done His part.

You work in conjunction with the Holy Spirit to walk out and stay on that narrow path. “But also for this very reason, GIVING ALL DILIGENCE, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for IF YOU DO THESE THINGS YOU WILL NEVER STUMBLE; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” II Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬-‭11‬

Go your way and sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.
