I’m sure there are many of you out there that have been struggling like I’ve been recently. My flesh has become my greatest enemy during these hard times, and the lies whispered to me constantly throughout the day are like stones added to my pack. No matter what time I go to sleep, my nights have been plagued with nightmares and bad dreams.
Nearly every craft I’ve tried has failed, every opportunity pursued has been closed, and writer’s block has hindered me from doing what I enjoy most. There’s only One that’s been unmoving throughout this time, and He waits patiently for me as a father waits for his child.
The other day my two-year old son was in the kitchen upset about something, so I called him to come talk to me. He took a few steps and looked at me with frustration in his eyes, so I called him again. Over and over I called him, until he came to me and I lovingly embraced him and comforted him. In that moment, I felt the Lord’s presence reminding me of the likeness to my relationship with Him. He’s calling, waiting patiently for us to come to Him, but the choice is ours to make. Sometimes my son will come to me, and other times I have to pursue him and fight through his stubbornness.
Throughout the Bible, the Lord has made Himself available to those who would repent and seek Him. From murderers to prostitutes, liars to thieves, He allows the repentant to come and find rest. Don’t allow your flesh to stop you from being near Him today. Take time to worship no matter how you feel, pray no matter how much you don’t want to, and seek Him even if He feels distant.
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
