TEMPTATION

TEMPTATION

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO TEMPT CHRIST?“Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, 2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink.

For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. 6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. 7 And do not become idolaters as were some of them.

As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” 8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; 9 nor let us [a]tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

11 Now [b]all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our [c]admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” 1 Corinthians 10:1-12

“To tempt Christ” means to “test, scrutinize, prove.” To try the Lord, means to let it come to the point whether He will show Himself to be God; in the above case: whether He will punish. According to this Corinthian Scripture, He did punish. This illustrates the “I can do this because I am under grace” people, God will never punish me.

Guess what? We are a nation and an apostate church under the judgment of God. Judgment begins in the house of God. He is separating the wheat from the chaff and revealing hearts, minds and motives. He is casting out those who have been lukewarm in their devotion and have treated His holy church like a brothel.

He is exposing false preachers and teachers and calling His own to come out of Babylon and repent; else we will be washed away with the world. We have treated His body like a prostitute and have given Him lip service. The church is filled with physical and spiritual fornicators, who want all the benefits of the Body without being faithful to the Body. Many have tolerated Jezebel for the sake of unity and call good evil and call evil good.

It has come to the point where He must show Himself to be God and punish our rebellion and disobedience in order to bring us to repentance. Let me illustrate a story. When I was around four years old, my mother and I were walking back from the grocery store. She was carrying two bags of groceries as I was skipping along. I was mostly a good kid at this age. I was an easy going kid and very obedient, never got in much trouble. But this day I thought it well to pick up stick and hit my mom’s bare legs.

At first, it was a game. I was not not hitting her hard. I would tap her leg and run away. She had her hands full. She laughed.l and it became a game. But after awhile, she was not laughing anymore. She began to tell me to quit that it was starting to hurt and if I didn’t stop, I was going to get a spanking.

Up until this point, I had never been spanked. Like I said, I just did what I was told. This day though, I would test the limits and words of my mother. I didn’t stop but continued to hit her legs. She boiled over and yelled at me, “You are getting a spanking when we get home!” I dropped the stick and ran home to hide in the trees behind our house.

My mom finally got home and proceeded to yell at me from the back door, “you are getting a spanking when you come in the house”. I think I hid for about an hour until I got hungry thinking enough time had passed and my mom would forget her word. I came in and my mom did as she had promised.

I had a choice: 10 licks with a belt or 3 with a stick. I picked the belt. I had put my mom to the test. I am continually reminded that God is not a man that He should lie. I hear parents threaten their children all the time. I remember one mom when my son was in kindergarten whose son was acting up and she threatened to take away all his toys and told him Santa would not visit him for Christmas. Of course, she did not take away his toys, but rather bought him more for Christmas. This is not an isolated issue.

Parents threaten all the time but never follow through on those threats. God does not threaten and not do. God will only do what He said He would do. I have even heard people talk about how Israel was cut off in the OT, but under the new covenant; God would never do that. Excuse me? What kind of false gospel niceness have you incorporated into your life?

What lies have you believed about the character and nature of the Lord?“For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.

Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?

For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews‬ ‭10:26-31‬We are told not to test Christ. Reflect on your actions and repent if you have tested Him. God is so very merciful and gracious, but He will do what He said He would do. He does not threaten and not make good on His Word. Israel’s actions were written down for our example.

The church needs to hear this message now more than ever. You cannot continue to live a life of sin and live life according to your own rules and escape His judgment. For the record, God defines sin, not you. There are multiple sins that will shut you out of His kingdom. (Gal 5:19-21; 1 Cor 6:9-10) Examine yourself thoroughly. God desires that we repent and be restored; but He will punish the wicked servants. #runyourrace
