The Deadliest Wound

Psalm 147:3 (NKJV)

3 He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds.

Isaiah 61:1-3 (NKJV)

The Good News of Salvation

61 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

These are the pastors actual sermon notes. Depending on time, the Holy Spirit, and how thing go in the church service the actual sermon may vary.

The Deadliest Wound

Richs aortic rupture. He was 46, in exercised, look good, wasn’t overweight. A microscopic hole in your heart can kill you.

When I came to the LORD I was completely broken and broken hearted.

The Lord gave me a vision of a stomach wound, and how I was walking around, bleeding everywhere I went, getting weaker and weaker. Constantly subject to sin and the devil. Until I got still in His presence and let Him bind up my wound. Laying there on the ground, watching Jesus sew me up.

The wounded heart and broken spirit is the MOST DEADLY kind of wound to our spiritual walk.

Psalm 147:3

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [curing their pains and their sorrows].”

Isaiah 61:1-3

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the [physical and spiritual] captives and the opening of the prison and of the eyes to those who are bound,

2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord [the year of His favor] [a]and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,

3 To grant [consolation and joy] to those who mourn in Zion—to give them an ornament (a garland or diadem) of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment [expressive] of praise instead of a heavy, burdened, and failing spirit—that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

Most people are not willing or disciplined enough to do what it takes to be FULLY healed. Some people will not stay in His presence long enough to get healed. They just want a quick shot of the Holy Spirit on Sunday morning to make them feel better.

Tonight I want to focus on “binding up our wounds”

How to Cleanse a Wound

  1. Locate the injury. Don’t get distracted by the first wound you see, there could be more serious wounds that need attention.

The worst wounds are the ones no one can see. They are internal.

If a man comes in limping, you know he has a physical ailment. But the man with the broken heart, the person with an abusive past, the woman who was abandoned is harder to detect. These inner wounds greatly affect the person and their identity.

Ex: Molly and my gall bladder surgery.

How do you spot injury in yourself and others?

Get to know them. Form a relationship with them.

Hurt will COME OUT in our fruit!

We are looking for things that come out long term, any of these can be short term symptoms.

  • sleep disturbances more than 2 times a week
  • eating disorders, eating too much, or not enough, selective anorexia (selective eating disorder- accepts less than 20 foods, fear and anxiety, rejects entire food groups, often assoc. w/ OCD food trauma, swallowing disorder, repulsed by taste or texture, refuses unfamiliar foods
  • unexplained physical symptoms (are you ALWAYS sick?)
  • difficulty managing your anger or controlling your temper (inability to manage your feelings)
  • compulsive obsessive behaviors (anxiety and worry)
  • chronic tiredness and lack of energy (the body shuts down with too much emotional baggage)
  • memory problems (anxiety and depression)
  • shunning social activity
  • decreased sexual desire, going through the motions
  • mood swings and erratic behavior noticed by more than one person

Does any of these apply to you? It is time to be serious about your healing! You will bleed everywhere you go until you let the Great Physician heal your heart.

God wants to SERIOUSLY USE YOU, but your emotional pain is hindering your ability to minister.

You will bleed. It will come out in your fruit.

Nothing should be “off limits” to talk about with your spouse, a trusted friend or confidant- TX couple

Apply direct pressure. Waiting to clean the wound can end up fatal if there’s a lot of bleeding.

You are going to have to get serious about FULL HEALING.

There is a FULL HEALING with God. He doesn’t do things half-way or half-hearted.

This takes discipline on your part to BE IN THE WORD!

Proverbs 4:20-22Amplified Bible (AMP)

“My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings.

21 Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart.

22 For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.”

APPLY THE WORD TO YOUR LIFE. find scripture that pertains to your healing. memorize it. put it in your heart.

RENEW YOUR MIND ACCORDING TO THE WORD. believe the Word. It doesn’t do you any good if you read the Word and say, “That’s for someone else. God can’t or won’t heal me.”

It does you know good to sit around and study the Word of God with no intent to apply it to your life.

Why? So you can sit around and argue the Word and prove how “knowledgeable” you are?

The Word is meant to go forth and bring LIFE.

Hebrews 4:12

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

Most people will not take the time to apply God’s Word to their life. This is a hard and timely process and they want a quick and easy fix.

  1. Remove any foreign debris with a sterilized tool.

If you  DO NOT get out the root of your hurt, it will continue to fester and create problems for the whole body. God will not sew you up with that root still in you. You can mask it. You can pretend.

YOU are going to have to CAST DOWN any and every thought that is NOT from the LORD.

God will not do this for you. YOU, yes YOU are going to have to get out those lies of the enemy.

These lies are foreign objects stuck in your spirit:

You are not good enough

You are not smart enough

You are nothing

You will never amount to anything

You are trash

You are worthless

You are not worthy enough to be loved

You are a quitter

You are ugly

You are fat and sloppy

You’ll never be healed, God can’t heal you, God won’t heal.

God doesn’t love you.

You are dirty and useless.

Shame and Guilt from your past.

God won’t forgive you.

Unforgiveness towards yourself or others for your past.

I can tell you all day long that these are lies. I can tell you:

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!

But, you have to know it for yourself and you are going to have to remove these lies by the power of the Holy Spirit.

  1. Sterilize the Wound. Alcohol v. running water. Rinse the wound WELL under clean RUNNING WATER.

Notice that is says clean RUNNING WATER.

You need a continual supply of the Holy Spirit. The normal Sunday shot is NOT going to cut it.

In my 20 years of serving God and 12 years pastoring this church, THIS is what I see the most.

People want a quick fix. They come in, want God to fix all their problems and heal all their hurts in one Sunday.

God wants you to get to know Him radically.

He wants to do a major healing in your life, a healing for the whole man, but you won’t sit in His presence long enough to get healed.

Ex: When I got saved, 3 hours praying in the Spirit, dwelling in His presence, constantly seeking His face. I desperately needed the Spirit to heal me.

My women: sit still and come and love me

Gal 1:15-18 But when He, Who had chosen and set me apart [even] before I was born and had called me by His grace (His undeserved favor and blessing), saw fit and was pleased

16 To reveal (unveil, disclose) His Son within me so that I might proclaim Him among the Gentiles (the non-Jewish world) as the glad tidings (Gospel), immediately I did not confer with flesh and blood [did not consult or counsel with any frail human being or communicate with anyone].

17 Nor did I [even] go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles (special messengers of Christ) before I was, but I went away and retired into Arabia, and afterward I came back again to Damascus.

18 Then three years later, I did go up to Jerusalem to become [personally] acquainted with Cephas (Peter), and remained with him for fifteen days.

But we want a QUICK FIX. We want a microwave God.

LISTEN: Before God wants to do anything in your life, He wants to heal your heart!

You cannot be a pond, getting a dose of the Holy Spirit here and there, you need that river to FLOW in you and through you, all day, every day. You need that continual water flowing in your life to sterilize those wounds.

John 4:14

But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life.

Keep full of the Holy Spirit. Running to the well DAILY because unclean spirits look for waterless places:

Luke 11:24 When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it roams through waterless places in search [of a place] of rest (release, refreshment, ease); and finding none it says, I will go back to my house from which I came.

Psalm 91

1 He who [a]dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!

3 For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

4 [Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

5 You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day,

6 Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.

8 Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place,

10 There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent.

11 For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service].

12 They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

13 You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot.

14 (GOD ANSWERS) Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.

5.Determine if you need stitches.

You cannot put a bandage on an open heart wound unless it is stitched up. Ex: Rich

Some wounds require stitches.

Some wounds are deeper and they need a little more care.

You are going to have stay under the care of the Great Physician.

You need to STAY STILL and let Him stitch you up.

You need to have patience with God, because He does a GOOD JOB AND HE TAKES HIS TIME sewing.

He is the Master Potter and you are the clay.

You have to let Him work on you.

You have to STAY IN HIS PRESENCE long enough for Him to make you new.

Jeremiah 18:1-6

The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord:

2 Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.

3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and behold, he was working at the wheel.

4 And the vessel that he was making from clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he made it over, reworking it into another vessel as it seemed good to the potter to make it.

5 Then the word of the Lord came to me:

6 O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does? says the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.

You have to stay in His presence long enough for Him to heal you.

LISTEN to the Holy Spirit tonight!

QUIT moving around you are tearing your stitches!

Quit church hopping. I’ve attended 5 churches in my 20 years. 4 yrs at Castle Hills, moved. 3 years at TWC, moved. One year at Today’s Church, moved. 1 year at By His Word. Started FVC.

I NEVER left any church because I was offended, and trust me, I was offended a lot. lip gloss=rebellion; a pastor told me he was better than me because he was raised in the church and he never did anything

Quit casting off people trying to help you.

Quit being so easily offended! YOU ARE BLEEDING AGAIN!

  1. Apply a gauze and a bandage.

If you do not apply a gauze with a tight bandage, it will come undone and your wound is left open and unable to heal properly.

HOLD FAST to the things of God with ALL your might!

Proverbs 4:4 He taught me and said to me, Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live.

Hosea 12:6 Therefore return to your God! Hold fast to love and mercy, to righteousness and justice, and wait [expectantly] for your God continually!

Luke 8:15 But as for that [seed] in the good soil, these are [the people] who, hearing the Word, hold it fast in a just (noble, virtuous) and worthy heart, and steadily bring forth fruit with patience.

John 8:31 So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples.

Romans 12:9 [Let your] love be sincere (a real thing); hate what is evil [loathe all ungodliness, turn in horror from wickedness], but hold fast to that which is good.

Romans 15:4 For whatever was thus written in former days was written for our instruction, that by [our steadfast and patient] endurance and the encouragement [drawn] from the Scriptures we might hold fast to and cherish hope.

1 Corinthians 15:2 And by which you are saved, if you hold fast and keep firmly what I preached to you, unless you believed at first without effect and all for nothing.

1 Timothy 1:19Holding fast to faith (that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence) and having a good (clear) conscience. By rejecting and thrusting from them [their conscience], some individuals have made shipwreck of their faith.

2 Timothy 1:13Hold fast and follow the pattern of wholesome and sound teaching which you have heard from me, in [all] the faith and love which are [for us] in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 3:6 But Christ (the Messiah) was faithful over His [own Father’s] house as a Son [and Master of it]. And it is we who are [now members] of this house, if we hold fast and firm to the end our joyful and exultant confidence and sense of triumph in our hope [in Christ].

Hebrews 10:23 So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word.

Revelation 3:11 I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one may rob you and deprive you of your crown.
