ARE WE THERE YET? The weeping prophet Jeremiah considers his position, he says, “I have seen affliction by the rod of His wrath. He (God) has led me in darkness and turned His hand against me. He has aged my flesh, broken my bones and surrounded me with bitterness and woe. He has hedged me in and made my chains heavy. He shuts out my prayer and blocks my way. He has torn me in pieces and made me desolate. I have become the ridicule of my people and He has made me drink wormwood. He has broken my teeth and covered me with ashes.
Yet, I recall to my mind and have hope- through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed. Great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:1-24 Are we there yet? Can you turn your back on all your complaints and afflictions that would cause you to be depressed and crushed beyond measure and proclaim, “The LORD is my portion!”? Or is your health your portion? Is your wealth your portion? Is happiness your portion? Is safety your portion?
When your path is blocked and your prayer seemingly falls on deaf ears, is God your portion? This is the prophet’s hope….hope in Him alone. Not a hope in what we want Him to do or what we want Him to give us, how we want Him to heal us or provide for us; but in HIM alone. These days require this hope alone. When all is stripped away, there is a remnant church that will proclaim, “the Lord is my portion!” Are we there yet?#runyourrace
