THINKING

THINKING

DO YOU HAVE A THINKING PROBLEM? The state of the heart governs the outward condition of man. “All the days of the afflicted are made evil, but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast.” Proverbs‬ ‭15:15‬ ‭The contrasted clause (he who has a glad heart) restricts the sense of “the afflicted” to mental anguish, as opposed to outward circumstances; thus one who is constantly thinking upon evil.

This mental “affliction” would include persistent thoughts filled with anxiety, doubt, disbelief, superstitious nonsense, “woe is me”, constant gloom and doom, and the like. This person always takes a gloomy view of things, is always in low spirits, and cannot rise superior to present circumstances. These never have a happy moment; they are always taking the anxious thought and forecasting evil.

Do you know anyone like this? Maybe it’s you. For purposes such as described, we are told to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Is it not just as easy to believe for the good than for the evil? Jesus tells us, “Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater [in quality] than food, and the body [far above and more excellent] than clothing?” Matthew‬ ‭6:25‬

‭I can hear your rebuttal now, “But Jesus didn’t understand mental problems the way we do now!” Huh? The Creator of the universe doesn’t understand His creation? Your thinking is seriously flawed and misguided. The contrasted sentence to the above proverb is, “he who has a glad heart has a continual feast”. We are told by God’s Word that regardless of our circumstances, we can have continual joy and gladness of heart. Our current outward afflictions cannot have ANY control over the man whose heart is full of the joy of the Lord. Right thinking determines a joyful countenance. This is the truth as revealed by the Holy Spirit. Take it or leave it, but it’s the truth.

However, this takes a disciplined mind. You have the responsibility to control your thought life. You take anxious thought captive, cast them out and replace with God’s Word. The problem is NEVER with God’s Word, it always lies within us. In my estimation, most people don’t want to do the disciplined work of controlling their mind and flesh. Today’s thoughts are: “just give me something to take away the pain”. Well, this is just a masquerade for the real problem. It will continue to return until you destroy the root.

These anxiety driven people just let their thoughts run amok and the enemy has a field day in the brain. Ask me how I know. I’m speaking from experience of the Lord revealing this very Word to me and having to painfully walk through it. Scripture tells us time and time again, to renew the mind, trust God’s Word, believe His promises, think on these things: whatsoever is good, right, pure and true. Why? Because the man follows the mind. This is true for those not even in Christ, how much more so for the child of God? How much more should God’s very own have continual joy and gladness of heart? This is a promise of Scripture, but will you take hold of the promise? The children of Israel were given the Promised land, but they still had to fight to achieve it. #runyourrace
