“NEVERTHELESS I HAVE a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.” Revelation 2:20 “ALLOW” this word in the KJV, is rendered “suffereth” and is defined as “permit, leave alone”. You might say in today’s language, tolerate. If you tolerate something, you permit it to happen; hence leaving it alone. I know parents who tolerate disrespect in their children. By tolerating it, you are by definition allowing and permitting it.
Are there things we should tolerate? Absolutely. But the opposite is also true. There are things we are not to tolerate and allow. This same word is used in Acts 16:7 “were FORBIDDEN (not suffered) of the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia”. There are things the Holy Spirit forbids. Whatever you tolerate, you allow- in your home, on your job, in your school, and in your church. If you notice, God is not a big fan of tolerating wickedness, especially in the Christian’s life. Why did Jesus have to tell this church they were tolerating wickedness? They knew idolatry and fornication were wrong, but men are people pleasers. What things are you tolerating that the Spirit has warned you to either confront or flee? Tolerate a little fire and it quickly becomes a raging beast. #runyourrace
