I AM NOT A FAN of the “name it and claim it” gospel. Years ago I was at a church talking to a lady who’s child wanted some video game system for Christmas. She remarked to me how she told him to “pray and believe” that the Lord would give it to him and that if he had enough faith, he would get that game system. Huh? The whole time she planned on buying it for him.
What was she teaching her child? That God gives him anything he wants if he just believes hard enough? What kind of Christian does this produce? God is not looking for spoiled, entitled followers. In fact, Jesus taught a lot on the peril of riches. If you pray and “receive” a car with a large debt attached, I can tell you most assuredly, it’s not from God. It’s what YOU wanted. If you are not a generous person, then it is YOU accumulating stuff. God doesn’t bless greed. Are we to ask? By all means, yes! “You have not because you ask not.”
Does God give good gifts? Yes! He is a Blesser and Rewarder of those who diligently seek HIM. But, are you truly seeking the Lord or His hand? What if you lost everything in a day? Would you still serve Him? What if the answer is a firm, “No!”? Will you throw a tantrum? Where is your treasure? Will you ask, seek and knock for the true riches?“Do not gather and heap up and store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust and worm consume and destroy, and where thieves break through and steal. But gather and heap up and store for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust nor worm consume and destroy, and where thieves do not break through and steal; For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 AMPC#runyourrace
