TRUE GRIT. GRIT defined as: courage and resolve; strength of character. My hubby and I have been watching a series called “Alone” and the first two seasons have been won by someone over the age of 40.
How do expect a 20-something to have grit? Most have the physicality and passion to endure, but not the resolve. It’s rare. It’s rare because a person with true grit has passion AND perseverance. They follow through on commitments. You could say grit comes through determination and discipline. It endures suffering, persecution, and affliction.
I tell parents all the time, “Stop rescuing your kids!” Let them stay in the fire. Allow them to deal with the consequences of a bad choice. Don’t make excuses for bad behavior. Train then to endure. Courage is developed through suffering and opposition. But then maybe you lack grit? You better start bulking up.
There’s a greater persecution coming for the church. The apostle Paul was acquainted with grit, “Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. However, when the disciples gathered around him, he rose up and went into the city.” Acts 14:19-20 Imagine being stoned and getting up and going back into the fire. Paul was disciplined and resolved to finish his race, no matter what may come. Something Paul knew and I know, my hope is not in this world. “The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death” Proverbs 14:32 That my friend, is true grit. #runyourrace
