THERE ARE THINGS GOD CANNOT DO. I was speaking once how God is truth and I made the following statement, “God cannot lie”. Later that night, I received an email from a man telling me that I should have said, “God chooses not to lie” because what I was saying was there are things God cannot do. Yes sir, that is exactly what I was saying, God cannot lie. He doesn’t choose to not lie, He cannot lie. He also cannot tempt you with evil because there is no evil in Him. He cannot be in the works of darkness because He is light. That “God cannot lie” means if He says it, He means it and it is the truth; otherwise we couldn’t really trust Him or His Word. How would you know when He was choosing to not lie?
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” Numbers 23:19
Titus 1:2 also says, “God cannot lie” because God isn’t just truthful, God is truth. Just like people say, “God is loving”, which is not the full truth because God is love. It is innate in Him. This means that the very character and nature of the Lord is truth. Humans can be loving and be truthful; yet i as a human am not love neither am I truth. Yet this is what is said of the Lord. Jesus called Himself “the Truth” and the Holy Spirit is “the Spirit of Truth”.
His written Word, the Bible is “the Word of Truth”. No friend, God cannot lie, which means you can take Him at His Word because He is totally trustworthy. He is true in all His ways, all He says and all He does. You can hold on tightly to all His promises and you must heed all His warnings. God will not be mocked. Take warning. His Word is faithful. You can trust His Word fully to give life and health to all your body. You can trust His plan and that this thing you are going through will work out for good. Don’t let doubt and disbelief creep in! You can trust God to do what He said He would do.
“Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.””
Jeremiah 1:12 ESV
“For I am the Lord; I will speak the word that I will speak, and it will be performed.”
Ezekiel 12:25a ESV
“I am the Lord. I have spoken; it shall come to pass; I will do it.” Ezekiel 24:14a ESV
“Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.” Joshua 21:45 ESV
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” Matthew 24:35 ESV
