“WHERE THERE IS NO REVELATION (vision), the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.” Proverbs 29:18
For years I’ve heard multiple sermons from this Scripture…. well at least the first part “where there is no vision the people perish”. The preacher would then inculcate on “vision” and how it means to set up your goals and plans for your life and success. This is an errant translation of this Scripture. It is all one thought. Therefore the word “revelation” or in some translations “vision” is not in reference to a future success of the person; but is in reference to a revelation or vision of (the second part) God’s law and a future success according to His law. Hence, where the people have no revelation of God’s law; they cast off all restraint and subsequently perish.
Fast forward to today’s society.
It is abundantly clear that people, including God’s own people have no desire to have a revelation of God’s law. They do not seek to know His Word; but would rather read every other form of “information” that enlightens their thinking and conforms to their own thoughts and feelings.
They sew together a Frankenstein Jesus, pieced by their imaginations. They will listen to preachers; but only those who tickle their ears, and so they refuse any sound doctrine. They don’t want to be convicted; confusing conviction for condemnation; they turn on the truth bearer with slander and gnashing teeth. Proclaiming love, they call evil good and good evil. As in the days of Amos, there’s a famine, a famine of God’s Word and every man does what is right in his own eyes. Hence, this proverb is fulfilled.
The gospel and it’s call to repentance has not changed. The blood of the Lamb is still all sufficient. Forgiveness and Reconciliation is only through His blood. His call to be holy as He is holy still stands. God’s Word is still relevant and unchanging. His laws are binding. His Spirit is all powerful and His grace is enough to overcome all barriers. Only His Spirit can heal the wicked heart and overcome the wayward mind. You are owed nothing.
God’s people need to repent. We need to repent of seeking our own success and kingdom, repent of our greed, idolatry and autonomy, repent of the sexual immorality we’ve allowed in our congregations and repent of the preaching of lascivious grace, repent of the division caused from selfish ambition and the pride of life. Repent and return to the Lord and He will return to us and heal our land. Intercessors need to stand in the gap. Preaching needs to return to the Word. People need to go back to the cross. Then He will pour out His Spirit from heaven. Only a remnant will come forth as pure gold. This is a critical hour.
“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.
Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.” Psalms 19:7-14 #runyourrace
