- Will you Wait? 2 Sam 5:1-5 (people can read more at 1 Chron 11)
- I’m great with waiting. As long as its right now. As I grow- my patience is improving.
- But there’s so much that people wait for. Jobs, relationships, sickness, spiritual growth, promotion, living situation, all of those things are real and part of living this life.
- And then we live like Christians, and sometimes it feels like giving up would be easier.
- Somedays I ask the Holy Spirit if I can have one day off a year. Up for 24 hours and he says no.
- Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
- Why are we talking about waiting today?
- David knew how to wait. He knew what had been spoken over him, but that was it.
- 2 sam 5: 4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.
- We read this stuff in a matter of minutes and years have passed over time. Today is the day!
- HE didn’t know the timeline
- this right here is the culmination of the past 15 years of Davids life. This was at 15 years old-
- 1 Sam 16: 12-13 READ
- Can you imagine being 15 years old knowing that you were going to be king, and in your teen years being chased by the current King?
- Saul died when David was 23 and he was king of Judah for 7 years during a civil war.
- Here today we see the culmination of the prophecies and plans of God to make David King.
- It took a long time for everyone to believe in him, It took a long time to become king (he was anointed at 15), It took a long time to go through the split of the kingdom (It was7 years)
- 4000 years since creation, 4000 years from original sin, 2500 years from the great flood, 2085 since abram was promised descendants, 2081 since God’s covenant with Abraham, 1525 since the birth of Moses, 1446 since the exodus and the commandments, and the law, 1406 since Joshua, 1100 since birth of Samuel, 1024 David Kills Goliath, 1003 David is Made King. Solomon is made king, Kingdom is divided at 931, 730 Isaiah says a child is born, 594 Jeremiah prophesies, 593 Ezekiel prophesies, 586 Jerusalem falls, 539 Daniel prophesies, 430 Word of the Lord by Malachi…. And then 400 years of waiting. Sarah was promised a child in Genesis 18, it took a while but she had a child. The woman with the issue of Blood had suffered from 12 years in Mark 5. Lazarus had been dead for 4 days before he was healed in John 11. The man at the pool in John 5 had been there for 38 years. Joseph got sold as a slave by his brothers and had to wait in Gen 37. Job had patience. Simeon in luke 2 was told he wouldn’t see death until he saw the messiah Luke 2:26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
- lamentations 3:25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him.
- God makes it clear that he has no problem with his people waiting. Joseph was in for 10 years!
- What does it mean to you?
- Are you overly concerned with the timeline? This is the Christmas season. The season of Arrival
- Our people waited thousands of years to see the promise of King David and then Messiah, and we can’t seem to handle a long week because we’re weak. We want everything right now
- We live in great times, but because we never have to wait for anything- we want everything right now. Back in my day we used to have to waste a whole Saturday to watch Thriller on MTV
- Deployed- I’d send a letter- it would take a week and another week to get it back. Now? TEXT
- Has God spoken things to you that haven’t come to pass that you’re waiting to see happen?
- Psa 40:1-3 READ I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.
- God hears your prayers! He knows
- Leviticus 26:4 then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
- Grow some patience! Forget about the timeline- be faithful NOW- WAIT TO BE KING- It will come! Your timeline is not God’s timeline. Prophetically speaking today- Its COMING!
- People love Jer 29:11 READ but don’t want to go through Jer 29:10 To get it.
- He didn’t know the process
- If David had lived today, the day after Samuel anointed him, he would have sent a tweet to all his friends letting them know he was now king and then livestreamed himself walking into Sauls chambers to take his place, and If he didn’t give it up? Trash him publicly on social media, invited the news, and then sue him. Shame him into subjection until he Got what was HIS
- But that wasn’t God’s process. There was stuff David would have to WALK THROUGH
- David spent YEARS as a shepherd boy and then YEARS in service to Saul and then YEARS running from him and then YEARS in Civil war before becoming king.
- He wondered why this had to be the process, but it seems as he trusted God in the process
- He had to know the Story of Joseph- Genesis 50:20 New King James Version (NKJV)
- 20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.
- Going back to chances to Kill Saul and he didn’t. Shows trust in God’s process that GOD would take care of Saul HE didn’t have to put it in his own hands!
- Psa 20:6-7 Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven ith the saving strength of His right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
- But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
- Deuteronomy 8:2-3 READ 3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger,
- What does it mean to you
- Are you allowing the Lord to hunger you? Are you allowing him to humble you in waiting?
- David let it have its work. Why do you want a life like the people in the Bible without going through what they had to go through? Don’t worry about the process- Embrace it!
- We go through something small, and it darn near breaks us. Most of us in the Bible would create a golden calf and make a new religion- wait- that’s what people do now
- People Create theologies that demand immediate moves of God that require them no pain
- Do you remember that God didn’t speak for 400 years and our Faith endured?
- We may not be living in the greatest days, but we may be living in the last days.
- Romans 5:3-4 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
- Embrace the process! Say “Lord, I’m not sure what you’re doing here, but I embrace it
- First years of the ministry- working 50-60 hours a week plus church 20 plus- why am I doing this
- Psalm 37:34 Wait on the Lord, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.
- He didn’t know the outcome.
- David w as the seed of the Messiah and he may not have even known it immediately
- He was just faithful to what was put in front of him. Kill a bear? Kill a lion? Fight Goliath?
- Sit out in a field watching a bunch of sheep singing songs for yeeears.
- Then one day- anointed as king. Then pursued. Then crowned.
- But he didn’t even know that the ultimate end was for the Messiah- the savior of the universe to come through his blood line-
- 2 Sam 7 12 “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.
- God used David to bring about the Savior- Christ the Lord.
- David didn’t know this outcome- He may not have even understood what it meant- maybe he did.
- Even the prophetic psalms that he wrote. He may not have known he was speaking about Christ. But he was. He was showing that Christ was going to come and save the world from their sin.
- He just kept his eye on YHWH- Waiting, leading, trusting, doing what he was called to do.
- Same as Isaiah 25:9 And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.”
- Many in the OT spoke and prophesied about the coming Christ without knowing the outcome!
- They were just FAITHFUL to what God had Put in front of them!
- What does it mean to you?
- You don’t even know how God is going to use what you’re going through to bring him Glory
- You don’t know the end result of where he’s taking you. How he is going to use you and your story-
- Many of you will not see the outcomes of your physical and spiritual life until long after you’ve passed through what you’re going through
- My friend- camping and worshipping- cause grandpa got saved.
- You must TRUST THE LORD through these times- understanding that he is working something.
- 1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
- This week is Christmas- We celebrate Jesus arrival this week. The ADVENT arrival of Jesus
- And in the story of Christmas- There’s a guy named Simeon that is often overlooked
- This guy was given a promise 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
- That’s a great promise! To be guaranteed to see the Christ!
- What did he do? We don’t know much about him- but we know this- 25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
- He was just, he was devout, and waiting. Just, devout and waiting.
- 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
- Here’s what I know- God works all things together for Good. David didn’t know. Simeon didn’t know. You don’t know the outcome- but GOD knows the outcome. Trust in him. TRUST
- God used Simeon but he didn’t know. God used David. God will use you.
- James 5:7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord.
