“I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one may rob you and deprive you of your crown.” Revelation‬ ‭3:11‬ ‭

I continue to hear the Spirit speak this word to me, “HOLD FAST”. When my kids were little, we often took them to Disneyland. If you know anything about Disneyland in summer, it is very crowded. So when the kids were small and we were walking through a crowd, I held them so closely and tightly to myself as to not let them slip or be pulled away in the crowd.

Whatever is precious to you, you hold fast. The “crown” mentioned above is a victor’s crown from Greek and Roman games. The one who was victorious over their race and endured until the end, beating out all other opponents. The Spirit is crying out, “Have ears to hear and hold fast!” Yes, it’s true that no man or devil can steal your victor’s crown, but you can be seduced by the enemy and tempted to stop running your race because you did not consider it dear and precious to you. Deception is real. I just read this all too familiar story that a friend posted in 2018:

“The problem with deception. It is vital to stay connected to a body of believers as well as the Word of God. Years ago I knew a woman who had been rock solid in the faith. She began to feel like she wasn’t getting fed in her church. For that and other reasons she began to bounce from church to church. Finally she made up her mind that none are good so she stopped altogether. She would stay up all night getting “downloads from the Spirit”.

Soon she began to post some things that were off. Her writing soon became heretical. She soon began twisting scripture and denying that the Word was infallible. She began writing about their being no Hell. That Jesus died for all, therefore everyone goes to heaven and the difference between us Christians and the world is that we Christians have a revelation of what God has done for us. She began to form and fashion a Jesus that suited her.

Many of her friends confronted and warned her in love that she was dangerously off. She took offense to this and began more and more to see Christians as the problem. She became offended with the body. She soon began sharing videos and teachings from those who have universalist views…. she was under deep deception, she was gone. The biggest and worst part of deception is that you don’t know that you’re deceived. Deception has a way of reproducing itself. Those who are deceived many times think that everyone else is deceived and they have special revelation. The church is vital. If you separate yourself from it, you separate yourself from those who would speak truth to deception.”

The above is a common story. Do not fool and deceive yourself. Every person I have watched go down that same path started their journey of deception by departing from the church. Scripture gives us multiple warnings against apostasy and how we are deceived. Sin deceived.

You can cast off all restraint and return to the pig slop- as a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool returns to his folly. You can fail to discipline your flesh, let a root of bitterness enter, stop fellowship with the brethren and spurn the gathering of the church, grieve the Holy Spirit and put out His fire. Because of fear, your love can grow cold and your heart will fail you. You can believe the lies of the enemy over the truth of God’s Word.

Jesus said, “Hold fast what you have”.

Do not be deceived. The truth which is taught here is, that by negligence or unfaithfulness in duty we may be deprived of the glory which we might have obtained if we had been faithful to our Lord and Savior. We need to be on our constant guard, that, in a world of temptation, where the enemies of truth abound, we may not be robbed of the crown that we might have worn forever.

Hold fast to truth. Hold fast the tenets of the faith that was delivered to the saints. Hold fast your allegiance to Jesus. Hold fast to courage and boldness. Hold fast your confidence firmly to the end and profession of faith without wavering. Like you would hold fast to your precious and valuable child in a sea of people, hold fast to Jesus and His Words.

““I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭8‬ ‭
