I MADE A BUTTERY YELLOW CAKE.
It’s a house favorite, a stick of butter makes it so moist and delicious and Hershey’s chocolate icing on top! Wow. My family loves it. I baked it, cooled it, iced it and waited until after dinner to have a huge slice. It looked amazingly beautiful. I cut into it and it seemed unusually dry. What the heck! I took my first bite and it was very dry.
I couldn’t figure out what I did wrong. Faith came home and had a piece. She had been looking forward to this cake. “Something is missing!” She exclaimed. I took out the cake directions and I immediately realized my mistake- I didn’t add a full cup of water. I read the recipe wrong and only added 1/3 cup. Ugh. Just 2/3 of a cup made all the difference. Are you dry?
You may think that your 10-15 min a day prayer and Bible reading is good, but it’s leaving you dry. You’ll never have the richness of His presence if you continually skip Sunday worship services. You’re not truly planted if you’re a church hopper, your roots have no system to get water. You may look super pretty, all covered in chocolate icing, but your dry on the inside. “but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”” John 4:14 The water that Jesus gives encompasses all that He is and all that He did and continues to do; His Spirit living and moving inside us connecting us to the Father and the brethren.
Where’s your treasure? What are you chasing after? Where and on what do you spend the bulk of your time? The only thing that truly satisfies your thirst is Jesus- through His cross, His Spirit, His way, His Word, His presence, His Church, His path. Those who are planted in the House of God shall flourish. You are a living stone being built up into a holy temple. A 1/3 cup of water a day is not enough to sustain you from becoming dry. You can dress up the outside all day long, but you will die from a lack of water. Sadly, I threw that cake away.
