I CANNOT TELL YOU how many times the Holy Spirit convicted and corrected me in the words of my mouth because I spoke unadvisedly and rashly, or without all the information. Read this, “Blessings are on the head of the righteous, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.” Proverbs 10:6
The apostle Stephen while disputing a group concerning Jesus in wisdom and the Spirit, had that group “secretly induce” men to lie, “stirred up” the people, and “set up” false witnesses against him. Remember, if you take part in a lie, that makes you a liar, and you walk in darkness. Be very careful what voices you allow in your ear. These men were offended at Stephen and in turn riled up others to take on their offense.
I could preach this message to every church in America and every church could attest to its truth. I rarely use the word “all”, but in this case, all pastors have been slandered and lied about by offended people. Every church has dissensions and divisive, offended people. There’s nothing new under the sun. The Bible says, “violence covers the mouth of the wicked”.
There’s a two-fold meaning here. In Scriptural times, a condemned criminal was seized and their mouth was covered, ref Esther 7:8. The second meaning is a universal law: you will reap what you sow. When you spread slander and lies, you will reap violence. There are so many people living in chaos because of the words of their mouth. They blame everyone else, but the violence they accused others of has returned to cover them.
Your words are serious. Do not take part in the lie. Stand far away from people who rile up others. Do not chose the path of the fool. “The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin.”“Whoever winks the eye causes trouble, and a babbling fool will come to ruin.”“Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.”“The wise lay up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool brings ruin near.”“The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever utters slander is a fool.
When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth. The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.”Proverbs 10:8, 10, 12, 14, 18-21 ESV#runyourrace
